The end of the energy sales moratorium in Quebec for Bitcoin miners

In an expected decision, the Regie de l’énergie rejected Hydro-Québec’s proposal to subject companies to a tariff auction and to force them to pay at least one cent more per kilowatt hour than the normal rate. Hydro-Québec had obtained, last year, a decree from the government allowing it to stop responding to requests for services from the cryptocurrency mining sector, which had exploded in demand from Chinese investors . Since then, demand has dried up because of the political uncertainty surrounding the mining industry in Quebec.
