In some colder regions, temperatures can plunge as low as -10 to -20 degrees Celsius, while the optimal operational temperature for mining machines ranges between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius. This guide provides advice on how to prevent and address problems like burnt hash boards, missing hash boards, missing chips, low-temperature protection, high-temperature protection, and temperature failure caused by cold weather.

Inspections before Installation

During transportation, the mining machines might encounter bumps and collisions. Upon receiving, gently shake the machine to listen for loose heat sinks. If any abnormal sounds are detected, it may indicate heat sinks have fallen off during transportation. Do not continue with the installation in such cases.

Given the extremely low temperatures in some regions, the internal temperature of the miner might be well below zero upon arrival. Upon unboxing, leave the equipment in a warmer area (around 25 degrees Celsius) such as a heated area in a mining farm, for about 30 minutes to warm it up before installation.

Note: The warming process serves to raise the miner’s temperature and disperse any internal water vapor. The pre-heating location should ideally be dry and have low humidity.

Preparations before Powering-up

The miner requires temperatures above 0 degrees Celsius to operate and will enter protection mode below -5 degrees Celsius. If the miner’s intake air temperature is below -5 degrees Celsius, it should be warmed up before operation. The warm-up can be accomplished by:

Note: During pre-heating, ensure the miner is heated evenly to prevent issues like single-point heating or air blocking.

Operation after Booting

Before setting up the mining pool, ensure the firmware is updated to the latest version (compared with our official website). If it’s not up-to-date, upgrade the firmware. The firmware can be downloaded from this link: https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product

Note: Verify the MD5 value after downloading the firmware.

Use our recommended browsers (Google Chrome or Firefox) for single machine upgrades via a webpage. Using other browsers might cause issues. If any problems occur during the upgrade, restart the miner before proceeding.

For batch upgrades, use the BTC tool or Antpool batch tool.

Considerations during Operation and Maintenance

If the hashboards continue to be missing after the firmware upgrade, try the ‘locate’ function to light up the LED on the management page. This will help you locate the miner, then unplug it, wait for more than a minute, and power it up. If this doesn’t solve the issue, power off the miner and shake it gently to see if any heat sinks have come loose. If chips or heat sinks have fallen off, the machine will need repair.

Contact customer service promptly if you encounter frequent abnormalities like missing hashboards or low hashrates.

The miner will automatically enter protection mode when the temperature is extremely high or low. Operate the machine when the temperature normalizes. Frequent restarts at extreme temperatures can cause equipment damage.

Notes on restarting:
