When it comes to managing your Bitmain S9 Series miner (including S9, S9i, S9j, and S9 Hydro), having a well-functioning control board is vital. To conduct this process, you’ll need the following tools

  1. A MicroSD card, preferably with a capacity under 16GB to minimize error susceptibility.
  2. A computer running Windows XP or later.
  3. A card reader.

The necessary software is the same image as used by T9+. You can download it here: https://service.bitmain.com/support/download. Once there, navigate to “Flashing SD Card With Image>>Tools and Instructions to Image SD Card”, and locate the ‘t9+-SD Tools.zip’. Download this file to a location of your choice on your computer.

Control Board Recovery Instructions

  1. Detach the control board: Remove the control board from the miner assembly.
  2. Prepare for flashing: Identify your control board model and prepare it for SD card flashing. See below for details on different control board types.
  3. Format your MicroSD card: Insert the MicroSD card into your computer and format it to FAT32.
  4. Load the necessary files: Unzip ‘t9+-SD Tools.zip’ and transfer the contents to your MicroSD card.
  5. Insert the MicroSD card into the control board: Place the MicroSD card into the card slot on the control board.
  6. Power up: Switch on the control board and wait at least 90 seconds for the files to load automatically. Successful loading is indicated by blinking red and green lights on the control board.
  7. Access the miner interface: Switch on the control board again, access the miner interface, navigate to the Upgrade page, uncheck “Keep Settings”, flash the firmware, and run the miner for 20 minutes.

Please note that the steps to enable flashing via an SD card vary between different control board models:

  1. Complete board models (e.g., CRT0401, CRT0402): Shift the JP4 jumper to the right to enable SD card flashing. After the flashing process, power off the control board and return the JP4 jumper to its original position. For more details, watch this video tutorial: https://youtu.be/6_4oxhVT6hg
  2. Double board models (e.g., CRT0302): To enable SD card flashing, short-circuit the AB as shown in this diagram.
  3. Board models without an SD card slot (e.g., CRT0301): Unfortunately, these boards don’t support SD card flashing.

Troubleshooting Flashing Failure

  1. Reformat the MicroSD card: Ensure you’ve copied the correct firmware.
  2. Check the MicroSD card’s placement: Press gently on the MicroSD card to ensure it’s properly attached.
  3. Clean the MicroSD card: Remove dust and other particles from the card.
  4. Try a different MicroSD card: If all else fails, attempt the process with a different, known good MicroSD card.
