Definition

Immersion tanks are purpose-built containers designed to hold mining hardware submerged in non-conductive cooling fluid. They range from small single-miner tanks for home use to large industrial vats holding hundreds of machines. The tank includes a pump system and heat exchanger to remove heat from the fluid.

For home miners, small immersion tanks offer near-silent operation and the ability to overclock hardware aggressively due to superior cooling. The dielectric fluid (typically mineral oil or engineered fluids like Novec) can be expensive but lasts for years. Heat can be recovered from the fluid loop for home heating.
