TDP

Intermédiaire Hardware

Also known as: Thermal Design Power, Heat output

Definition

TDP indicates the amount of thermal energy (heat) a device produces at maximum operating conditions. For mining hardware, TDP is essentially equal to the total power consumption since virtually all electrical energy is converted to heat.

TDP is critical for planning cooling solutions, electrical circuits, and space heating applications. A 3,000W miner produces 3,000W of heat (approximately 10,236 BTU/hr), which must be managed through ventilation, air conditioning, or intentional heat recovery.

In Simple Terms

The maximum heat output of a miner in watts. Equal to power consumption since all electricity becomes heat.

Thermal Design Power. The maximum amount of heat a mining device generates under full load, measured in watts. Determines cooling requirements.
