Definition
Voltage regulators (VRMs – Voltage Regulator Modules) are critical power delivery components on hashboards. They step down the 12V supply from the PSU to the very low voltages required by modern ASIC chips. Each hashboard may have multiple voltage domains, each regulated independently.
VRM failures are a common cause of hashboard problems. A failed voltage regulator can cause a chain of ASIC chips to stop working or, worse, can damage chips by delivering incorrect voltages. VRM replacement is a standard ASIC repair procedure.
In Simple Terms
Components that convert 12V power to the precise low voltage ASIC chips need. A common failure point in miners.
