Network Hashrate

Beginner Network & Protocol

Also known as: Total hashrate, Global hashrate

Definition

Network hashrate is estimated by observing how quickly blocks are being found relative to the current difficulty. It cannot be measured directly. As of 2024-2025, Bitcoin’s network hashrate regularly exceeds 600 EH/s.

Network hashrate trends are important for miners because they indicate competitive pressure. Rising network hashrate (with constant difficulty) means blocks are found faster, leading to difficulty increases. For individual miners, higher network hashrate means a smaller share of block rewards.

In Simple Terms

The total computing power of all Bitcoin miners combined. Higher network hashrate means more competition.

The estimated total computational power of all miners on the Bitcoin network, typically measured in exahashes per second (EH/s).
