FUD stands for Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt. This term is used whenever there is a negative mainstream news article or an online account spreading poorly documented information about Bitcoin.
Usually the titles of these articles are clickbait in nature and the article itself does not look as bad as the title suggests. Unfortunately, people don’t tend to read past the title, so fall for the trap.
We saw the effects of a concerted effort by FUD in the mainstream media in the bear market of 2018. Negative news came and went and eventually caused prices to drop drastically as weak hands sold their Bitcoin. Sources that broadcast FUD are called FUDsters.
Popular and overused FUD topics include, but are not limited to:
- Countries Banning Bitcoin
- Energy consumption
- Boiling oceans
- No use cases
- Ponzi scheme
If you start to feel fear, uncertainty, or doubt about your Bitcoin investment, stop reading the news and do more research to make sure you no longer feel the effects of FUD.
