Description

Desoldering Wick

The Desoldering Wick (Tin Removal Wire) is a pre-fluxed copper braid used to cleanly remove solder from ASIC miner hashboard components, PCB pads, and connector pins. Press the wick against the solder joint with your iron, and capillary action draws the molten solder into the copper braid — leaving a clean pad ready for rework. It is one of the most fundamental consumables in any ASIC repair toolkit.

Whether you are removing a faulty voltage regulator, cleaning up bridged solder on a BGA pad, or preparing a landing site for a replacement component, desoldering wick gives you precise solder removal without the mess of a desoldering pump. The pre-applied flux promotes fast wicking and clean results. Essential for hashboard repair work on Antminer, Whatsminer, Avalon, and Innosilicon boards.

Use Cases

  • Cleaning BGA pads after chip removal
  • Removing excess solder from hashboard component pads
  • Fixing solder bridges between fine-pitch pins
  • Desoldering through-hole connectors and capacitors
  • General PCB rework and repair on mining hardware

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use desoldering wick properly?

Place the braid flat against the solder joint you want to remove. Press your soldering iron tip on top of the braid (not directly on the joint). The iron heats the braid, which heats the solder, and capillary action pulls the molten solder into the copper weave. Trim the used section and repeat. Use fresh wick for each joint — saturated wick will not absorb more solder.

What width should I use for hashboard work?

For most ASIC hashboard components (voltage regulators, capacitors, resistors), a medium-width wick (2–3mm) works well. For fine-pitch BGA pad cleanup, narrower wick provides more precision. For larger through-hole connectors, wider wick removes solder faster. This is a general-purpose width suitable for the majority of hashboard repair tasks.
