Description

Why the NerdQAxe+ — The Quietest Quad-Chip Open Source Bitcoin Solo Miner

The NerdQAxe+ takes the quad-chip architecture that the original NerdQAxe pioneered and upgrades it with BM1368 chips — the same ASIC silicon that powers the Antminer S21. The result is a quieter, more efficient quad-chip solo miner that delivers 2.4–2.5 TH/s at just 50–55W, with a best-in-class efficiency of ~20 J/TH.
  • Four BM1368 chips, S21-generation efficiency — each chip is a direct descendant of the silicon in Bitmain’s Antminer S21, one of the most efficient industrial miners ever built. The NerdQAxe+ puts that efficiency on your desk.
  • Whisper-quiet operation — rated at less than 25 dBA in quiet mode, the NerdQAxe+ is the quietest quad-chip miner in the OSMU lineup. Run it in your bedroom, office, or living room without anyone noticing.
  • CE certified — this is not a prototype or a dev board. The NerdQAxe+ has passed CE certification (Bitronics), making it a legitimate commercial product with verified electromagnetic compatibility and safety standards.
  • New thermal design — a precision-machined aluminum heatsink paired with an 80mm ThermalRight fan and a new buck converter that reduces operating temperatures by 10+ degrees Celsius compared to the original NerdQAxe.
  • Plug-and-play with full dashboard — the 1.9″ color LCD and browser-based AxeOS interface give you real-time visibility into hashrate, chip temperatures, power draw, uptime, and Bitcoin network stats. Set up in under 5 minutes via Wi-Fi.
The NerdQAxe+ sits in the sweet spot of the OSMU lineup: more hashrate and better efficiency than single-chip miners, quieter and more affordable than the NerdQAxe++ or NerdOctaxe. For home miners who want meaningful quad-chip hashrate without the noise, heat, or power draw of higher-tier devices, this is the one. D-Central Technologies has been in the OSMU ecosystem since the early days — we created the original Bitaxe Mesh Stand, developed custom heatsinks for the Bitaxe and Hex, and have shipped thousands of open-source miners from our facility in Laval, Quebec. Every NerdQAxe+ is inspected and tested by our ASIC repair technicians before it leaves our shop. $5–$10 from every sale goes directly to OSMU development.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NerdQAxe+?The NerdQAxe+ is a quad-chip open-source Bitcoin solo miner using four Bitmain BM1368 ASIC chips — the same generation of silicon found in the Antminer S21. It delivers 2.4–2.5 TH/s at stock settings while consuming just 50–55W. It is CE certified, runs the open-source AxeOS firmware, and features a 1.9″ color LCD for real-time mining stats. The NerdQAxe+ is the efficiency-optimized evolution of the original NerdQAxe.
How does the NerdQAxe+ compare to the original NerdQAxe?The NerdQAxe+ is a significant upgrade across the board. It uses BM1368 chips (S21 generation) instead of the original’s BM1366 chips (S19 XP generation), delivering better efficiency (~20 J/TH vs ~23–32 J/TH), similar or higher hashrate (2.4–2.5 TH/s vs 1.7–2.4 TH/s), quieter operation (<25 dBA vs ~40 dB), and lower operating temperatures thanks to a redesigned buck converter. The NerdQAxe+ also carries CE certification.
What are my chances of finding a Bitcoin block? At 2.5 TH/s against the current network hashrate (~800+ EH/s), your daily probability of finding a block is approximately 1 in 1.4 million. Over a full year of 24/7 mining, your cumulative probability is roughly 0.026%. The odds are long — but every hash is an independent roll of the dice, and the prize is a full 3.125 BTC block reward (~$300,000+ CAD). The NerdQAxe+ is a lottery ticket that costs under $5/month in electricity.
How loud is the NerdQAxe+?The NerdQAxe+ is the quietest quad-chip miner in the OSMU lineup. In quiet mode, it operates at less than 25 dBA — quieter than a whisper. In normal operation, fan noise is approximately 40 dB, comparable to a quiet desktop computer. The 80mm ThermalRight fan and precision heatsink keep temperatures low without needing aggressive fan speeds. You can run this on your nightstand.
What power supply do I need? The NerdQAxe+ requires a 12V DC power supply with a barrel jack connector. A 10A (120W) UL-certified adapter is recommended for reliable operation, especially if you plan to overclock. Never use a 5V Bitaxe power supply — the NerdQAxe+ runs on 12V. We carry compatible power supplies in our accessories shop.
Can I overclock the NerdQAxe+?Yes. The AxeOS web interface allows you to adjust ASIC frequencies and core voltages. Users have pushed the NerdQAxe+ to approximately 3.0 TH/s with proper cooling and a robust power supply. Increase frequency in small steps and monitor temperatures — the over-temperature protection will throttle automatically if things get too hot. The improved thermal design of the NerdQAxe+ gives you more overclocking headroom than the original.
NerdQAxe+ vs Bitaxe GT — which should I buy? Both deliver roughly 2.1–2.5 TH/s, but they take different approaches. The NerdQAxe+ uses 4x BM1368 chips, is quieter (<25 dBA vs ~35 dB), lighter (270g vs heavier), and has a larger color LCD display. The Bitaxe GT uses 2x BM1370 chips on a compact 120x60mm PCB, is more power-efficient (~18 J/TH vs ~20 J/TH), and uses a 6-layer board for better thermal performance. Choose the NerdQAxe+ for quieter operation and the Nerd-series ecosystem. Choose the Bitaxe GT for maximum efficiency and the smallest form factor. D-Central carries both.
Which mining pool should I use?For solo mining (recommended), the top choices are Solo CKPool (solo.ckpool.org) — 2% fee, battle-tested infrastructure, multiple confirmed block finds — and Public Pool (web.public-pool.io) — no fees, community-driven, self-hostable. For pooled mining with regular small payouts, Ocean and Braiins are reliable options. At 2.5 TH/s, solo mining is the primary use case — you are hunting for the full 3.125 BTC block reward.
How do I update the firmware?Open the AxeOS dashboard in your browser (enter the NerdQAxe+ IP address from your router or the LCD screen), navigate to Settings, and upload the latest firmware file. The update takes about 60 seconds. OTA (over-the-air) updates are fully supported — no physical access required. Always use firmware from the official GitHub repository.
