Definition
ViaBTC is a Bitcoin mining pool founded in 2016 by Haipo Yang, who wrote the initial pool software himself. The pool mined its first Bitcoin block in June 2016 and has since grown into a multi-coin mining platform supporting Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, and other proof-of-work networks. ViaBTC is part of a broader ecosystem that has at times included an exchange and cloud-mining products.
Payout schemes
ViaBTC is widely credited with popularizing the PPS+ (Pay Per Share Plus) payout method, which pays the block subsidy on a fixed per-share basis while distributing transaction fees in proportion to contributed work. The pool also offers Full Pay Per Share (FPPS) and Pay Per Last N Shares (PPLNS), letting miners select the trade-off between income smoothing and exposure to actual pool performance.
Notable for
Beyond its payout innovation, ViaBTC is frequently cited among the larger Bitcoin pools and has pursued security certifications such as SOC 2 for its infrastructure. Its hashrate share in 2026 typically lands in the low single-digit percentages of the network, placing it in the second tier of pools by size.
For payout details see PPS+ and FPPS.
