Quick answer

Among third-party Antminer firmware in 2026, BraiinsOS+ is the only one with native Stratum V2, VNish covers the widest Antminer model range with the most aggressive overclocking, and LuxOS leads on curtailment speed and 120V support. All three add per-chip frequency autotuning and per-domain undervolting; dev fees run 2-2.8%. DCENT_OS (0% default fee) is in closed beta.

Firmware Details

In-depth look at each firmware option: what it does best, who it is for, and key technical details.

Stock (Bitmain)

0% dev fee

The default firmware shipped with every Antminer. No dev fee but lacks advanced tuning, efficiency optimization, and modern protocol support. Suitable for plug-and-play operation with no customization needs.

  • Developer Bitmain
  • Mining Software CGMiner / BMMiner
  • Base OS Angstrom / Yocto
  • Supported Models All Antminer models
  • Curtailment N/A

BraiinsOS+

2 - 2.5% dev fee

The only firmware with native Stratum V2 support. Partially open-source with the BCB100 control board hardware fully published. Per-chip auto-tuning optimizes efficiency (J/TH). Popular among efficiency-focused miners.

  • Developer Braiins
  • Mining Software BOSminer (Rust)
  • Base OS OpenWrt
  • Supported Models Antminer S9, Antminer S17, Antminer S19, Antminer S21
  • Curtailment ~30s

VNish

2 - 2.8% dev fee

The most widely deployed third-party firmware with over 1.5 million devices running VNish worldwide. Known for aggressive hashrate boosts of 20-30% via per-chip auto-tuning. Closed-source with a proven track record across the S9 through S21 lineup.

  • Developer VNish
  • Mining Software Proprietary
  • Base OS Linux
  • Supported Models Antminer S9, Antminer S17, Antminer S19, Antminer S21
  • Curtailment ~15s

LuxOS

2.8% dev fee

The first SOC 2 Type 2 certified ASIC firmware. Built by US-based Luxor Technology, LuxOS leads in curtailment speed (under 5 seconds) and is the first firmware to support 110V/120V household power. Its 2.8% dev fee is mandatory: it is only offset to roughly 0% effective when you mine on Luxor’s own pool (through a monthly pool-fee rebate), and on any other pool you pay the full 2.8%. Ideal for enterprise and compliance-focused mining operations.

  • Developer Luxor Technology
  • Mining Software Proprietary
  • Base OS Linux
  • Supported Models Antminer S19, Antminer S21
  • Curtailment <5s

DCENT_OS

0% (default) dev fee

An open-source (GPL-3.0) firmware being built for industrial Antminers. Its dev fee is a 0% mandatory target with no required hashrate redirect — the goal is a stack that is GPL-3.0 and yours to audit and modify. Built to bring these machines home and, increasingly, to bridge them into AI compute. It is in active closed beta on the Antminer S9 today; S19 and S21-class support is in active development, with public beta planned for summer 2026 (an estimate). It is experimental and can brick your miner. Standing on the shoulders of BraiinsOS+, VNish, and LuxOS, who pioneered the autotuning and tooling we learned from.

  • Developer D-Central
  • Mining Software dcentrald (Rust)
  • Base OS Buildroot
  • Supported Models Antminer S9 (active closed beta), S19 / S21 in active development
  • Curtailment Planned

Key Takeaways

Lowest Dev Fee: Stock (0%)

Stock firmware has zero dev fee but lacks auto-tuning, meaning less efficient operation. BraiinsOS+ at 2-2.5% offers the best balance of fee vs. efficiency gains that typically exceed the fee cost.

Fastest Curtailment: LuxOS (<5s)

LuxOS can reduce power to approximately 25W in under 5 seconds, critical for demand response programs. BraiinsOS+ and VNish take around 30 seconds, which may not meet strict grid curtailment requirements.

Only Stratum V2: BraiinsOS+

BraiinsOS+ is the only firmware with native Stratum V2 support, enabling encrypted mining connections, job declaration for better decentralization, and reduced bandwidth usage compared to Stratum V1.

120V Home Mining: LuxOS Only

As of February 2026, LuxOS is the only firmware supporting 110V/120V household power via APW12 PSU bypass mode. This makes it the sole option for home miners without 240V electrical infrastructure.
