Antminer T21 Firmware: Stock, Braiins OS+, VNish & LuxOS by Control Board
Search “Antminer T21 firmware” today and most of the first page is download portals, several presenting themselves as official. This page is the other thing: a neutral decision layer for the T21 — which chip it actually runs (and how we know), which control boards it ships on, every real firmware option including stock, the March 2024 install lock, and the CVitek remote-install rule — with no third-party downloads hosted and nothing sold but the repair bench behind it. The chip: BM1368 — and how we know
The T21 runs the BM1368 (TSMC 5 nm) — the same die as the S21, and not the BM1370, which belongs to the S21 Pro and S21 XP. Secondary sources confuse these constantly; our corpus resolved the T21’s identity against ten independent sources with zero contradictions. One honest caveat travels with that verdict, and we keep it attached: the identification rests on the board-family mapping — T21 hashboards are the BHB68xxx family, and BHB68xxx boards carry BM1368 dies — because no public live chip-ID readback from a T21 exists yet. Per Luxor’s compatibility docs, the specific T21 hashboard SKUs are BHB68701 and BHB68703.
What we deliberately do not print: a per-board chip count. Our own sources conflict on it, and a number we cannot stand behind does not go on the page — see the FAQ below. Nameplate rating is 190 TH/s at 3,610 W (19 J/TH) per our model corpus, matching Bitmain’s marketing figures. We also do not publish stock frequency or voltage for this model; they are not reliably documented.
Step zero: identify your control board — one model name, several boards
The T21 ships on Amlogic and CVitek CV1835 control boards — that much Luxor’s compatibility table and our own platform research agree on. Then there is a documented vendor divergence worth stating plainly: Luxor lists only AMLogic and CVITEK for the T21, while VNish’s own site language (“T21 with Xilinx”) and the t21_xil images in the release lineage we analyzed say a Xilinx-boarded T21 exists in the wild. We print the divergence rather than resolve it. The consequence is the same either way: the model name does not tell you the board, and the board decides everything below.
So first: run the control-board identifier — under a minute, works even with a dead board. The CVitek answer matters twice on this model: it changes both what you can install and how it must be installed.
The firmware options
Dev-fee figures below are each vendor’s own published number, checked August 2026 — ranges are printed as ranges, not flattened.

The same consumer-protection note we print on every firmware page: VNish’s own FAQ warns that “free / no-devfee” builds circulating on lookalike domains are fake and may carry hidden fees — the vendor’s warning, and it generalizes. The March 2024 lock: check your stock firmware date before planning anything
The T21 is a current-generation machine, which puts it squarely in the era where this matters. Two dated facts, labeled by evidence grade:
- Verified, from Luxor’s compatibility docs (re-checked August 2026): “Remote Install is required for: Machines with CVITEK control boards” and for machines running “Bitmain Firmware dated March 2024 or newer.” On the T21 that clause has extra reach: CVitek is one of the model’s two confirmed board families, so a meaningful share of T21s are remote-install for LuxOS regardless of firmware date.
- Supported, from third-party-vendor installation notes: starting around March 2024, Bitmain shipped Amlogic control boards with firmware locks that block third-party firmware installation outright. Braiins maintains an Amlogic remote-installation guide for exactly this case, and aftermarket unlocking kits exist (Altair Technology sells one). Reportedly, stock firmware released after September 2025 additionally locks the SD-card downgrade path and disables the micro-USB port on affected boards. Bitmain itself does not publish these lock dates; the record comes from the vendors who work around them — which is why this bullet is Supported, not Verified.
The practical rule: read the stock firmware date off the dashboard before you plan anything. Pre-March-2024 stock on an Amlogic board: direct install paths are generally open. March 2024 or newer: plan on downgrade-first where the downgrade path still exists, or the vendor’s remote-install/unlock route. CVitek board: the remote-install rule applies on the LuxOS path either way. The lock landscape moves; we track it as events land on the ASIC firmware lock & security event tracker.

When it stops being a firmware question
A T21 that drops a chain no matter what image it runs, a flash that ended in a board that boots nothing, temp sensors that vanish after an update — that is a bench job, not a firmware decision. What ASIC chip does the Antminer T21 use?
The BM1368 (TSMC 5 nm) — the same die as the S21, and not the BM1370 of the S21 Pro/S21 XP, a confusion secondary sources repeat constantly. The identity rests on the board-family mapping (T21 boards are BHB68xxx, and BHB68xxx boards carry BM1368) because no public live chip-ID readback from a T21 exists yet; we resolved it against ten independent sources with zero contradictions and we still keep that caveat attached.
Which firmware options exist for the Antminer T21?
Bitmain stock (the legitimate default), Braiins OS+ (T21 on the official download list), VNish (Amlogic and CVitek platform images, plus a Xilinx line), and LuxOS (AMLogic and CVITEK boards per Luxor’s compatibility table, with CVITEK units installed via Luxor support). Hiveon’s own pages conflict on the T21, so its status is Unknown. DCENT_OS does not target this model. Which option you can actually install depends on your control board and stock firmware date.
Does the Antminer T21 have a Xilinx control board?
The vendors diverge, and we print the divergence instead of resolving it: Luxor’s compatibility table lists only AMLogic and CVITEK for the T21, while VNish’s site says “T21 with Xilinx” and its release lineage carries t21_xil images. Run the control-board identifier on your unit — the board in your hands outranks every table.
Why does LuxOS require remote installation on some T21 units?
Two of Luxor’s own rules catch the T21: machines with CVITEK control boards require remote install (the CV1835 has no SD-card boot rail — its BootROM is eMMC-first, so a self-serve SD install is structurally impossible), and so does any machine running Bitmain stock firmware dated March 2024 or newer. Since CVitek is one of the T21’s two confirmed board families and the model is current-generation, many T21s hit one rule or the other.
How many chips are on an Antminer T21 hashboard?
We do not publish a number, and that is deliberate: our own sources conflict on the T21’s chip count, and the conflicting figures cannot both be right as written. A spec we cannot stand behind does not go on the page. The chip identity (BM1368) and the hashboard family (BHB68xxx; BHB68701/68703 per Luxor’s docs) are solid; the count is not yet.
