Antminer S23: Confirmed Specs, Variants & Efficiency

Quick answer

The Antminer S23 is Bitmain's current-generation SHA-256 flagship, shipping since January 2026. Its product line and headline specs are confirmed: the air S23 runs 318 TH/s at 11 J/TH, and the hydro variants reach 9.5 J/TH. What is still projected — and clearly tagged as such here — is the chip-level detail: the BM1373 designation, its process node and core count remain unverified until a unit reaches our bench. This hub keeps confirmed specs and projected internals cleanly separated, the same evidence standard as our S21 and S19 hubs.

There is a lot of speculation about the S23's internals online, and a lot of it is wrong. The product line itself is real and shipping; what Bitmain still has not published is the silicon detail. Our discipline: the headline specs Bitmain has announced are stated as confirmed, while chip-level internals stay marked projected until a unit reaches the bench. Credit to Bitmain for a genuine generational step — the air S23's roughly 27% efficiency gain over the S21 Pro (11 vs ~15 J/TH) is too large for a simple rebin, which points to a new chip, not a stepping.

The S23 product line is shipping (since January 2026) and its headline specs — hashrate, power, efficiency and cooling — are CONFIRMED. What stays RUMORED / UNCONFIRMED is the chip-level detail: the BM1373 designation, its process node and core count are projections until a unit reaches our bench. Those cells are tagged accordingly — we do not print internals we cannot stand behind.

Voltage is regulated per voltage domain, never per chip — a group of chips shares one regulated rail. Frequency and voltage targets are calculated at runtime by the autotuner; they are not fixed presets.

Owner data strip — tuning, errors, profiles, repair

Bench-measured tuning data for the S23 is still limited — we publish power profiles only once a unit is measured on our own hardware, the same as every other model. The confirmed factory efficiency points (9.5–12 J/TH across the line) are in the spec database; measured tuning bands will follow as units reach the bench. We never publish numbers we have not verified.

Lifecycle — support, used market, and second life

Support / end-of-service: Current generation, shipping since January 2026 with a full Bitmain warranty window. We track end-of-service on the EOS Tracker like every other model.  Antminer EOS Tracker →

Used market: The used market is early and thin — units still command a premium and are beginning to push the prior S21 family down in price as volume arrives.

Heat reuse: The S23 is a high-density heat source like the S21. At 3,498 W (air) up to 11,020 W (Hyd 3U) per unit, size any heat-reuse loop to the specific variant; our heat-reuse guidance extends to it.

Fix it — top failure modes and what they cost

  • The S23 is new to the field, so bench-verified S23-specific failure data is still limited — we publish model-specific failure modes only once units reach our bench, the same evidence standard as every other hub. In the meantime the SHA-256 failure classes in our Fault Finder (hashboard voltage domains, PSU, control board) apply to it as they do across the fleet.

Frequently asked questions

Has the Antminer S23 been released?
Yes. The S23 line has been shipping since January 2026. The air S23 (318 TH/s, 11 J/TH), the immersion S23 IMM (442 TH/s), and the hydro S23 Hyd (580 TH/s, 9.5 J/TH), Hyd 3U (1,160 TH/s) and S23e Hyd 2U (865 TH/s) are all confirmed. What is still unconfirmed is the chip-level detail — the BM1373 designation, process node and core count — which we keep marked as projected.
What are the confirmed Antminer S23 specs?
Air S23: 318 TH/s, 3,498 W, 11 J/TH. S23 IMM: 442 TH/s, 5,304 W, 12 J/TH. S23 Hyd: 580 TH/s, 5,510 W, 9.5 J/TH. S23 Hyd 3U: 1,160 TH/s, 11,020 W, 9.5 J/TH. S23e Hyd 2U: 865 TH/s, 8,650 W, 10 J/TH. These headline figures are confirmed; the internal chip specs (part number, chips per board, voltage domains) remain projected until a unit reaches our bench.
Is the S23 a real upgrade over the S21?
Yes. The air S23's ~11 J/TH is roughly a 27% efficiency step over the S21 Pro's ~15 J/TH, and the hydro S23 reaches 9.5 J/TH. A jump that large is too big for a simple rebin, which points to a genuinely new chip generation. Both the S21 and S23 families are current and in the catalog; the S23 leads on efficiency, while the S21 remains the value workhorse.
