Description

Why the NerdNOS — The USB-Powered Bitcoin ASIC Miner Made in Canada

The NerdNOS is D-Central’s own USB-powered Bitcoin solo miner — a real BM1397 ASIC chip delivering 80-130 GH/s while drawing just 7-8 watts from any USB-C port. Designed, assembled, and tested in Laval, Quebec by D-Central’s ASIC repair technicians, the NerdNOS bridges the gap between the educational NerdMiner and the more powerful NerdAxe. Over 1,000x more hashpower than a NerdMiner, with the same USB-powered simplicity. D-Central has been a pioneer in the OSMU ecosystem since 2016, and we back every device we sell with our 2,500+ miner repair track record.

  • A Real ASIC Miner That Runs on USB-C — The NerdNOS packs a genuine BM1397 ASIC chip (the same silicon from the Antminer S17 series) into a device that draws just 7-8 watts from any USB-C port. No external power brick, no special cables. Plug it into a phone charger or laptop and you are running a real Bitcoin ASIC miner.
  • Triple Threat: Miner + Bitcoin Clock + Network Dashboard — The NerdNOS is not just a miner. Its built-in display cycles through three modes: live mining stats, a real-time Bitcoin clock, and global network metrics. It is the most functional desk piece in any Bitcoiner’s setup — and it mines while it displays.
  • 80-130 GH/s at 7-8 Watts — The BM1397 ASIC chip delivers 80-130 GH/s of SHA-256 hashrate while sipping just 7-8 watts. That is over 1,000 times more hashpower than a NerdMiner, running on roughly the same energy as charging a tablet. Your monthly electricity cost: well under $1.
  • Made in Canada by ASIC Repair Experts — Every NerdNOS is assembled and tested in Laval, Quebec by D-Central’s team of ASIC repair technicians — the same engineers who service thousands of mining machines every year. This is not a generic import. Each unit is quality-checked by people who understand ASIC hardware at the component level.
  • The Perfect Middle Ground — Sitting between the educational NerdMiner ($49.99) and the full-powered NerdAxe ($189.99), the NerdNOS gives you real ASIC mining capability at a price and power level that anyone can commit to. USB-C power means zero barrier to entry.

Display Modes

The NerdNOS built-in screen is what sets it apart from every other ASIC miner. It cycles through three display modes, turning your miner into a desk-worthy Bitcoin dashboard:

Mining Stats Mode

Real-time view of your mining operation: current hashrate, shares submitted, best difficulty share found, ASIC chip temperature, and power draw. Watch your NerdNOS work in real time.

Bitcoin Clock Mode

A live Bitcoin clock showing current block height, time since last block was mined, current BTC price, and the block reward countdown. The most cypherpunk desk clock you will ever own.

Network Stats Mode

Global Bitcoin network metrics: total network hashrate, current mining difficulty, difficulty adjustment countdown, and mempool status. Stay connected to the pulse of the Bitcoin network without opening a browser.

Quick Setup

  1. Plug in — Connect the NerdNOS to any USB-C power source (phone charger, laptop port, USB hub) with at least 2A output. The screen lights up and the device boots in seconds.
  2. Connect to WiFi — Join the NerdNOS WiFi hotspot from your phone or computer. Enter your home WiFi network name and password, plus your Bitcoin wallet address, in the configuration portal.
  3. Start mining — The NerdNOS connects to a solo mining pool and begins hashing at 80-130 GH/s. Your display immediately starts showing mining stats, Bitcoin price, and network data.

No assembly. No external power brick. No command line. If you can plug in a USB cable and connect to WiFi, you can run a real ASIC miner.

Important: The NerdNOS only supports 2.4 GHz WiFi. If your router uses 5 GHz only, create a dedicated 2.4 GHz network in your router settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NerdNOS?

The NerdNOS is a USB-powered Bitcoin solo miner featuring a real BM1397 ASIC chip — the same chip used in the Antminer S17 series. It delivers 80-130 GH/s of SHA-256 hashrate while consuming just 7-8 watts via USB-C. Beyond mining, it doubles as a Bitcoin desk display with three screen modes: mining stats, Bitcoin clock, and network dashboard. Each unit is assembled and tested in Canada by D-Central’s ASIC repair team.

What power source do I need?

Any USB-C power source with at least 2A output. A standard phone charger, laptop USB-C port, or multi-port USB hub will work. The NerdNOS draws 7-8 watts — about the same as charging a tablet. No mining-specific power supply is needed. That is the key advantage of the NerdNOS over larger miners.

How does the NerdNOS compare to the NerdMiner?

The NerdMiner hashes at ~78 kH/s using software on an ESP32 processor. The NerdNOS adds a real BM1397 ASIC chip, delivering 80-130 GH/s — over 1,000 times more hashpower. Both have color displays and are USB-powered. The NerdNOS costs $139.99 vs $49.99 for the NerdMiner but gives you genuine ASIC mining capability.

How does the NerdNOS compare to the Bitaxe?

The Bitaxe Gamma (1.0-1.2 TH/s) delivers roughly 8-15x more hashrate than the NerdNOS (80-130 GH/s), but requires a dedicated 5V/6A power supply and draws ~21W. The NerdNOS wins on convenience — USB-C power, smaller footprint, silent operation — while the Bitaxe wins on raw hashpower. If USB-powered simplicity matters to you, the NerdNOS is hard to beat.

What are my odds of finding a Bitcoin block?

At 100 GH/s against the current network hashrate (~700+ EH/s), your daily odds are approximately 1 in 7 billion. These are long odds. But the NerdNOS is a lottery ticket that costs under $1/month in electricity, runs 24/7 without maintenance, and gives you a shot at the full 3.125 BTC block reward (~$300,000+ CAD). Every hash is an independent chance. And beyond the lottery, every hash contributes to Bitcoin’s decentralization.

Why is D-Central’s NerdNOS more expensive than other sellers?

D-Central’s NerdNOS is assembled and tested in Canada by our ASIC repair team — technicians who service thousands of mining machines every year. You are not getting a generic board shipped from overseas. Each unit is quality-checked, comes with Canadian support, and is backed by a company with 8+ years of Bitcoin mining expertise. You also get access to D-Central’s full ecosystem: ASIC repair if anything goes wrong, plus every accessory and upgrade in the OSMU lineup.

Is the NerdNOS silent?

Yes. The NerdNOS has no mechanical fan — its low 7-8W power draw generates minimal heat that dissipates passively. It is completely silent, making it ideal for desks, bedrooms, offices, or anywhere you want a miner running 24/7 without any noise.

Can I run multiple NerdNOS units?

Yes. Each NerdNOS is an independent device that only needs a USB-C port. You can run multiple units from a multi-port USB charger or hub. Each connects to WiFi independently and can mine to the same or different wallet addresses. Stack them up to multiply your hashrate and your lottery tickets.

Which mining pool should I use?

For solo mining: Public Pool (web.public-pool.io) is free and open-source, or Solo CKPool (solo.ckpool.org) charges 2% but has strong infrastructure. Solo mining is the recommended mode — at 80-130 GH/s, pool mining would earn fractions of a cent per day, while solo mining gives you a shot at the full 3.125 BTC block reward.

What does “Made in Canada” mean for this product?

Each NerdNOS unit is assembled, tested, and quality-checked at D-Central’s facility in Laval, Quebec by our team of ASIC repair technicians. These are the same engineers who diagnose and repair Antminer hashboards at the component level. When we say “Made in Canada,” we mean hands-on Canadian craftsmanship from people who understand ASIC hardware inside and out.

Can I buy a NerdNOS in Canada?

You are buying from the source. D-Central Technologies designs, assembles, and ships the NerdNOS from our facility in Laval, Quebec. CAD pricing, fast Canadian shipping, bilingual support in English and French, and no cross-border customs or duties. Visit our shop to order.

What is the upgrade path from the NerdNOS?

The natural next step is the NerdAxe ($189.99) at 500 GH/s — nearly 5x the hashrate. From there: the Bitaxe Gamma ($189.99) at 1.2 TH/s, the Modern Minibit Gamma ($229.99) at ~2 TH/s, or jump straight to the Bitaxe Hex ($499.99) at 3+ TH/s. D-Central carries every step of the OSMU mining ladder. Visit our Bitaxe Hub for the full comparison.

Supporting Open-Source Mining

The NerdNOS is part of the OSMU (Open Source Miners United) ecosystem — a worldwide community building open-source Bitcoin mining hardware accessible to everyone. $5 from every NerdNOS sale goes directly to OSMU to support continued open-source development.

The NerdNOS firmware and hardware are fully open source. All designs, schematics, and code are publicly available for review, modification, and improvement. When you buy a NerdNOS, you are supporting an ecosystem where mining hardware belongs to the community, not to corporations.

D-Central has been part of this ecosystem since day one — creating the original Bitaxe Mesh Stand, engineering custom heatsinks, developing the Modern Minibit Gamma, and now assembling the NerdNOS right here in Canada. We build for this community because we are part of it.

Every hash counts. 80-130 GH/s from your USB port is hashpower that belongs to you — not to a data center, not to a corporation. That is what open-source mining is about. Decentralization starts on your desk.

Explore the full open-source mining ecosystem at the Bitaxe Hub, or contact our team to find the right miner for your setup.
