Innosilicon Custom Firmware: Verified T2Tz Support and Model Compatibility

Short answer: custom firmware is not broadly available across the Innosilicon Bitcoin-mining range. Current evidence supports one full-replacement path for the T2Tz. Historical T3 references are not confirmed by a current official support list. Monitoring software is not replacement firmware, and software built for other ASIC platforms cannot be assumed to work.

First, identify the miner you actually have

T-series: the Bitcoin line covered here

The T2, T2T, T2Tz, T2Th variants, T3, T3+ and T3H+ are SHA-256 miners. Similar names do not guarantee a shared control-board revision or a compatible firmware package. Read the complete model label before making a decision.

A-series: not a Bitcoin-firmware match

The A-series includes Scrypt, X11, Equihash and Ethash machines. An A10 or A11 is not a Bitcoin miner, and a T-series firmware image is not applicable. If the label is unclear, use the Innosilicon hardware history and model guide first.

What “custom firmware” can mean on an Innosilicon miner

The phrase is used for three different things. Mixing them up is the main source of bad compatibility advice.

Full replacement firmware

Replaces the stock mining software and management interface. It may add tuning profiles or automation, but it also changes the trust, fee and recovery model. Exact-image compatibility matters.

Monitoring client

Adds fleet visibility or controls while the miner continues to run its stock firmware. Useful, but it is not a firmware replacement and does not make unsupported replacement images compatible.

Another platform’s firmware

Firmware designed for a different control board, boot chain or ASIC protocol is not portable merely because both machines mine SHA-256. The inspected T2Tz image uses an unidentified ARMv7 platform and a model-specific mining stack.

Confirmed Innosilicon custom-firmware compatibility

This table deliberately separates verified image analysis from publisher-stated support. It is a compatibility map, not an endorsement or a promise of performance.

What D-Central verified inside a real T2Tz image

D-Central’s firmware laboratory inspected both a stock T2Tz image and a full-replacement T2Tz image. That work establishes facts that a download listing cannot:

  • The inspected stock platform boots through a custom loader, an older U-Boot release, a vendor Linux 4.14 kernel and an A/B root-filesystem layout.
  • The inspected T2Tz mining stack descends from the public DragonMint-T1 cgminer lineage and retains model-specific clock, voltage and chain controls.
  • The inspected replacement image changes the mining binary and management layer, adds wattage-oriented tuning profiles, and includes a developer-fee mechanism.
  • The replacement package is cryptographically signed. A valid signature proves package integrity within that publisher’s trust model; it does not prove universal model compatibility or remove the need for recovery planning.

Choose the right path for your goal

Keep the miner stable

Stay on a known stock build when the machine is stable or your exact model is not listed. Use D-Central’s old-firmware source directory to find legitimate channels; D-Central does not present unknown files as safe downloads.

Tune a confirmed T2Tz

Use only the path evidenced for that exact model. Before installation, document the current version, board revision, pool settings and recovery method. Re-check current publisher terms because fees and supported builds can change. Historical T3 references are not current compatibility evidence.

Add monitoring without replacing firmware

Choose the monitoring-client route if visibility and fleet controls are the real goal. This keeps the stock firmware in place and avoids pretending that a management client is a custom operating system.

No confirmed option for your model

“Unsupported” is a useful answer. Do not cross-flash a nearby model. Stay stock, verify a model-specific source, or ask a repair technician to identify the board before risking a working miner.

Before you trust or install any package

  1. Match the full identity. Confirm the chassis label, hashrate variant, control-board revision and currently installed firmware.
  2. Verify the source. Use the original publisher or manufacturer channel. A familiar filename on a mirror is not provenance.
  3. Read the economic terms. Check the current developer fee, pool-routing behaviour and licence terms. Treat undated fee claims as stale.
  4. Plan rollback first. Stock T2Tz firmware uses an A/B layout, but that does not make every bad flash self-healing. Preserve the correct recovery image and procedure before writing anything.
  5. Return to baseline before diagnosing hardware. Unstable tuning, overheating or a mismatched image can resemble a failed hashboard. Diagnose from a known configuration.

When this is a recovery problem—not a firmware-choice problem

A miner with no IP address, a dead network interface, zero hashrate after an update, or an interrupted write needs recovery triage. Installing a second custom image is not a diagnosis. Stock Innosilicon firmware uses signed update packages and redundant A/B slots; severely damaged control-board storage may require model-specific recovery media.

DCENT_OS status for Innosilicon

DCENT_OS is not available for Innosilicon miners. There is no public, validated image, mining claim or install route. Internal research produced only a fail-closed Phase-0 software scaffold for studying the platform. The inspected T2Tz image uses an unidentified ARMv7 platform and a vendor Linux 4.14 kernel; that is research context, not product compatibility. Do not treat an Innosilicon miner as a DCENT_OS target.
