At minimum you need a mining pool account and your ASIC miner's stock firmware. Most miners come pre-configured — just enter your pool URL and wallet address. For more control, consider custom firmware like Braiins OS+ or fleet management tools like Foreman or Hive OS. BitAxe users run AxeOS, which handles everything through a web interface.
For home miners who value decentralization, OCEAN and Public Pool are strong choices — OCEAN uses the DATUM protocol for miner-constructed block templates, while Public Pool offers zero-fee solo mining ideal for BitAxe users. If you prefer consistent payouts, Braiins Pool offers FPPS with Stratum V2 support. Solo CKPool is another option for miners who want to try their luck at finding a block independently.

Stratum V2 is the next-generation mining protocol that improves on the original Stratum protocol with encrypted connections, reduced bandwidth, and — most importantly — the ability for miners to construct their own block templates instead of relying on the pool. This increases decentralization and censorship resistance. Braiins Pool and OCEAN both support aspects of Stratum V2.
