Resetting Miner to Factory Settings: What You Need to Know

Start with safety and logs

Power down before opening a miner, label cables before moving boards, and capture logs before repeated reboots erase useful evidence. Record model, firmware, pool, uptime, fan speed, temperature, reject rate, chain count, and the exact error text.

Confirm the fault class

Separate configuration faults from hardware faults first. Pool errors, DNS failures, bad worker names, overheating, weak power, fan faults, and missing hashboards can look similar from the dashboard but require different fixes.

Document the test path

Change one variable at a time and keep the before/after result. Note cable swaps, PSU swaps, firmware changes, pool changes, fan replacements, ambient temperature, and whether the fault follows a hashboard, control board, network, or power source.

When to escalate

Escalate to professional repair when there is a burned smell, melted connector, breaker trip, corrosion, repeated hashboard loss, liquid exposure, or a board-level fault that returns after a basic cable, power, firmware, and airflow check.

After the fix

Run the miner long enough to confirm stable accepted hashrate, fan behavior, chip temperature, reject rate, and pool-side reporting. A dashboard that looks normal for five minutes is not enough evidence for a recurring power, heat, or hashboard fault.

Resetting your ANTMINER to factory settings can be beneficial in several situations, such as when troubleshooting issues or preparing the miner for resale. Here are three methods to restore your ANTMINER to its original state.

Method 1: Restore via “Reset” Button

This method is applicable within the first 10 minutes after the miner boots up.

  1. Power on the miner and wait for 2 minutes.
  2. Press the “Reset” button for 5 seconds, then release it.
  3. The miner will restore factory settings within 4 minutes and will automatically restart. There is no need to power off the miner manually.

Note: This reset is only valid if the mining machine has been powered on for 2 to 10 minutes. Beyond this window, a reset is not possible.

Method 2: Restore via Web Interface

Depending on the series of your miner, the process can differ slightly.

For the 17 series:

  1. Log in to your miner user interface.
  2. Click on “Upgrade”, then select “Perform reset”.
  3. Confirm the action by clicking “OK” in the pop-up window.

For the 19 series:

  1. Log in to your miner user interface.
  2. Click “Restore factory settings” in the lower right corner.
  3. In the pop-up selection box, choose “Restore factory settings”, then wait for the system to reboot.

19 Series Reset

Method 3: Restore via “IP Report” Button (For ANTMINER S9 series, T9, T9+)

  1. Power off the miner.
  2. Hold down the IP Reporter button and don’t release it. Simultaneously, power the miner back on.
  3. Release the IP Reporter after 5 seconds. The machine will automatically restore to factory settings.

IP Reporter Reset

Note: S9 and T9 series miners should be online and have the latest firmware from the official website before using this method to restore factory settings.

This method is not applicable to miners that have an SD card on the right of the Ethernet interface.

After the reset, your miner will be running its original firmware. It’s recommended to reload the miner with the latest firmware.

Visit the Firmware Page for the latest updates and learn How to reload firmware on your miner.

Remember to back up any necessary data before performing a factory reset, as this will erase all existing settings and data.
