Mining Pool Coinbase-Tag Registry
Which ASCII coinbase tag does each major Bitcoin mining pool stamp in its blocks, and how do explorers attribute hashrate? This registry maps the exact tags, attribution method, operator and status for every meaningful-share pool.
Quick answer
When a pool mines a block it stamps an identifier in the coinbase transaction's scriptSig -- a short ASCII tag like "/AntPool/" or "Foundry USA Pool #dropgold". Explorers like mempool.space read those tags (falling back to the coinbase payout address) to attribute each block to a pool, which is how anyone "knows" a given pool mined ~30% of recent blocks. This registry maps 21 major pools (20 active) to the exact tag they stamp, the attribution method, operator and status -- the provenance layer behind every pool-share chart.
Important: coinbase tags are SELF-DECLARED and can be spoofed, and pools rebrand (Slush -> Braiins), so block attribution is a probabilistic heuristic, not cryptographic proof. Use this to understand and verify the attribution behind centralization stats -- not as ground truth. This is exactly why Stratum V2 + your own block templates matter: they move template-building away from the pool. Free CSV/JSON under CC BY 4.0.

| Pool | Coinbase tag | Attribution | Operator | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AntPool Second-largest pool; also runs FPPS for other brands so some hashrate it mines may carry partner tags. | /AntPool/ | Mined by AntPool | coinbase tag | Bitmain | active |
| BTC.com Much reduced from its former top-tier share. | /BTC.COM/ | /BTC.com/ | btccom | coinbase tag | BTC.com (BIT Mining) | active |
| Binance Pool Share reduced versus its 2021-2022 peak; attributed by tag and by known Binance payout addresses. | /Binance/ | binance.com/ | binance/ | binance | tag + address | Binance | active |
| Bitdeer / BitFuFu Listed as two related canonical entries; BitFuFu is Bitdeer's cloud-mining affiliate. | Bitdeer | BitFuFu | coinbase tag | Bitdeer Technologies / BitFuFu | active |
| Bitfarms Public miner; the BITFARMS tag appears when it self-mines rather than routing hashrate to a third-party pool. | BITFARMS | coinbase tag | Bitfarms Ltd. | active |
| Braiins Pool Slush Pool rebranded to Braiins but the canonical coinbase tag is still '/slush/'; '/Braiins/' is not in the canonical list. | /slush/ | coinbase tag | Braiins (formerly Slush Pool / Satoshi Labs) | active |
| Carbon Negative An unidentified payout-address cluster that explorers label 'Carbon Negative'; no ASCII coinbase tag. | (no public tag; address-based) | coinbase output address | — | active |
| EMCD Canonical pool name is 'EMCDPool'. | /EMCD/ | /one_more_mcd/ | emcd.io | get___emcd | coinbase tag | EMCD | active |
| F2Pool F2Pool also stamps two non-ASCII markers (a Chinese discus-fish phrase and a fish emoji) omitted here per ASCII-only rule; '/slush/' is NOT an F2Pool tag. | F2Pool | coinbase tag | F2Pool | active |
| Foundry USA Largest BTC pool; the older full coinbase string historically read 'Foundry USA Pool #dropgold' but the canonical match tags are 'Foundry USA Pool' and '/2cDw/'. | /2cDw/ | Foundry USA Pool | tag + address | Foundry Digital LLC (Digital Currency Group) | active |
| Luxor North-American FPPS pool. | /LUXOR/ | Luxor Tech | coinbase tag | Luxor Technology | active |
| MARA Pool Self-mining pool of a public miner; also identified via its own payout addresses. | /Mara Pool/ | MARA Pool | MARA Made in USA | tag + address | MARA Holdings (Marathon Digital) | active |
| Mining-Dutch Small multi-algorithm pool. | /Mining-Dutch/ | coinbase tag | Mining-Dutch | active |
| NiceHash Hashpower marketplace; '/NiceHashSolo' is for its solo-mining service. | /NiceHash/ | /NiceHashMining/ | /NiceHashSolo | coinbase tag | NiceHash | active |
| OCEAN Non-custodial pool (canonical name 'Ocean.xyz'); attributed via tag plus published reward addresses. | OCEAN.XYZ | tag + address | OCEAN | active |
| SBI Crypto Japan-based pool. | /SBICrypto.com Pool/ | SBICrypto | SBI Crypto | coinbase tag | SBI Crypto (SBI Holdings) | active |
| SECPOOL Canonical pool name is 'SecPool'; exact tag casing is 'SecPool'. | SecPool | coinbase tag | SECPOOL | active |
| SpiderPool Grew notably from 2024 onward. | SpiderPool | coinbase tag | SpiderPool | active |
| Ultimus Pool Smaller-share pool. | /ultimus/ | coinbase tag | Ultimus Pool | active |
| ViaBTC A related 'TATMAS Pool' uses '/ViaBTC/TATMAS Pool/', indicating shared ViaBTC infrastructure. | /ViaBTC/ | viabtc.com deploy | coinbase tag | ViaBTC | active |
| Poolin Once a top-3 pool; largely wound down after its 2022 liquidity crisis, minimal share today. | /poolin | /poolin.com | coinbase tag | Poolin (Blockin) | historical/defunct |
