Multi-Stage Lined Absorptive Shroud Silencer

Priced by quote

The next step in the silencer line: multiple chambers in series, combined with an absorptive lining, to work across a broader band than a single reactive chamber can.

Description

In development — not yet available to order. Held until the v2 tuned silencer has been acoustically measured. Building a bigger silencer before measuring the current one would be guessing with more material.

Overview

The next step in the silencer line: multiple chambers in series, combined with an absorptive lining, to work across a broader band than a single reactive chamber can.

What it fits

Planned for the dual 120 mm and dual 140 mm platforms already covered by the reactive silencers, terminating in standard 6-inch or 8-inch collars.

How it is used

It would be the option for installs where the reactive silencers are not enough — residential settings, shared buildings, anywhere the noise question is the binding constraint rather than an annoyance.

Why it helps

Reactive chambers work on specific frequency bands by geometry. Absorptive lining works broadly but mostly on higher frequencies. Combining stages is the standard way to get broadband attenuation, and it is the honest next move — but only after we know what the current designs actually achieve.

  • Multiple stages in series plus absorptive lining for broadband effect
  • Planned for the dual 120 mm and dual 140 mm platforms
  • Gated on acoustic measurement of the current v2 design, not on design effort

Open source — print it yourself, or buy it finished

Every shroud D-Central designs is released as an open file. The geometry for this part is free to download from our 3D models download center: use it, modify it, remix it, run it in your own shop, sell what you make from it. There is no licence to buy and no design gated behind a purchase. Shared knowledge is the whole reason this industry has open hardware at all, and we are not going to be the ones who stop passing it on.

This part is not finished yet, so there is no file to download and nothing to buy. When it is done, both arrive at the same time — the file free, the finished part for sale. If the open-source work is worth something to you in the meantime, you can back it directly through D-Central’s fund page.

Frequently asked questions

Why not just build it now?

Because we would be designing blind. We have not put the v2 tuned silencer on an acoustic bench yet, so we do not know what a further stage would add. Publishing a bigger, more expensive silencer on the strength of a theory we have not checked is exactly the thing we are trying not to do.

Will it have foam in it?

An absorptive lining of some kind is the plan, which is a real trade: absorptive media works, and it also degrades, compresses and can shed into the airflow. That trade is part of what needs measuring before it ships.

What is the best silencer you sell today?

The dual 120 mm to 8″ v2 is the most developed — a reactive chamber plus a tuned quarter-wave branch. We publish no decibel figures for it, for the same reason this part is not out yet.
