Threaded duct receiver for 6-inch duct — the screw-on half

This 6-inch threaded duct receiver is what turns a D-Central threaded shroud into a duct connection. The shroud’s outlet is a printed thread, deliberately, because a thread is the one connection that gets tighter the more you use it. The receiver spins onto that thread and presents the line’s standard 6-inch flex-over spigot on the far side — clamp land 150.4 mm, retention bead crest 152.4 mm.

It shares its bore, its clearances and its 45-degree thread flanks with the threaded blank-off cap, with 1.242 mm of radial engagement on the flanks. Cap and receiver are interchangeable on the same shroud. That is the reason to choose the threaded mount over any other: a machine that is running wears the receiver and the duct, and a machine that is down wears the cap, so the run cannot backfeed cold outside air, dust or insects into an idle miner.

The receiver stays clamped to the duct. Swapping between ducted and sealed is a matter of unscrewing one part and screwing on the other, by hand, with the duct hanging where it always hangs.

A threaded shroud on its own has no duct interface — its thread mates with this receiver or with the cap, and that is the design. For a tool-free connection you break more often than you seal, the Bayonet Duct Receiver 6-Inch — Twist-Lock Duct Adapter is the faster half of the same idea.

How it installs

1. Slip 6-inch flex duct over the spigot end, past the retention bead.
2. Clamp it on the 150.4 mm land and leave that clamp alone from here on.
3. Spin the receiver onto the shroud thread until it seats. Hand tight is the specification — the thread is a printed one, not a plumbing fitting.
4. When the machine comes down for the season, unscrew the receiver, screw the blank-off cap onto the same thread, and hang the duct out of the way.

Why a thread beats a clamp at the shroud end

A worm clamp holds by squeezing flex core against a spigot, and it holds well until something pulls on it sideways. A hanging duct pulls sideways constantly. The thread carries that load on a continuous 45-degree flank all the way around the joint rather than on one band of pressure, so the connection cannot creep loose under vibration or the weight of an insulated run. It is also fully reversible without hardware: no screwdriver, no clamp on the wrong side against a wall, no chewed-up flex core after the fourth removal.

• Screw a duct on and off by hand, with no tool at the shroud end.
• Switch one shroud between ducted and sealed by swapping receiver for cap on the same thread.
• Carry the weight of a hanging run on a full-circumference thread instead of a single clamp band.
• Keep the same 150.4 mm clamp land as every other 6-inch part in the line.
• Take repeated cycles in PETG, which stays stiff at ASIC exhaust temperatures where PLA softens.

Files go out free under CC BY-SA 4.0 at the 3D models download center, and this part has its own card at the 6-inch threaded receiver model. Download, modify, remix, print and sell it, including the matching cap, so anyone anywhere can make a shroud port that seals.
