Whatsminer shroud: the full 140 mm fan face into 6-inch duct
This Whatsminer shroud is a 140 mm fan to 6-inch duct adapter, and it exists because most of the market is the wrong size. MicroBT builds the M-series around 140 mm fans, while almost every shroud sold anywhere is drawn for the 120 mm fans Bitmain uses — leaving the outer band of a Whatsminer’s blade blowing at the back of a plate.
D-Central drew this one to the 140 mm fan flange itself, not to one generation’s chassis wrap, so a single body covers the M30S+, the M50, the M50S+ and the M60 instead of one model year. One continuous PETG body: no seams to leak, no glued joints, no fasteners to back out.
What it buys you is control. An unducted Whatsminer decides for itself where its heat and noise go, and the answer is always the whole room. Put a collar on the exhaust and the machine becomes something you can place on purpose.
What it fits: MicroBT Whatsminer M-series 140 mm fans
Built to the Whatsminer 140 mm fan flange on its 124.5 mm screw pattern, with slotted 4.5 × 5.3 mm holes that span the 124.5 and 125.0 mm pitch split. The machines that carry that face are the M30S+, the M50, the M50S+ and the M60. MicroBT changes the case far more often than the fan, so a fan-referenced duct adapter survives a fleet upgrade — but it is those four models this shroud is cut for, not the M-series as a slogan.
The outlet is a standard 6-inch collar at 152.4 mm nominal, taking common flexible or rigid duct and 6-inch inline fans.
If your duct is metric, take the collar that matches it: the Whatsminer 140 mm Fan to 150 mm Metric Duct Shroud, the 160 mm version, or the 200 mm version. How it installs
- Seat the shroud over the exhaust fan, square to the 140 mm flange.
- Slide 6-inch flexible or rigid duct over the collar and band-clamp it down.
- Run the duct out: window port, wall penetration, or into a 6-inch inline fan.
- If the machine lives somewhere dusty, add a 140 mm Intake Filter Ring on the cold end.
Why a 140 mm shroud is not a 120 mm shroud with a bigger hole
A 140 mm fan sweeps roughly 36 percent more disc area than a 120 mm one. That extra area sits at the outside of the blade, the part moving fastest, because tip speed climbs with radius. Push a 140 mm fan through a body drawn for a 120 mm face and it is that outer ring you block: the air recirculates behind the plate and comes back at the fan as noise and heat that never reached the duct.
This body opens at the full 140 mm face and keeps its walls moving outward to the 6-inch collar, so the transition is an expansion rather than a step, with 125 mm of depth to make it gradually.

Open source — Whatsminer owners should not have to hunt for files
The 140 mm corner of this hobby has been starved of parts for years. D-Central’s answer is to design properly and give the design away: released under CC BY-SA 4.0 at the 3D models download center, free to download, modify, remix, print and sell.

Frequently asked questions
Which Whatsminer models use a 140 mm fan?
Four of them, and they are the four this shroud is cut for: the M30S+, the M50, the M50S+ and the M60. They share the 140 mm fan on a 124.5 mm screw pattern, so a fleet holding all four standardises on one part. Older and side-branch Whatsminers use a different chassis face and are not covered — go by the fan and the screw pitch on the back, not the model badge.
Is 150 mm the same as 6-inch?
No, and the gap matters at a clamped joint: 6-inch is 152.4 mm, metric duct is 150 mm. Rather than have you shim it, we cut the collar to the size you own — see the 150 mm version, the 160 mm version, or the 200 mm version for European and Australian duct.
Is 6-inch enough for a Whatsminer, or will I choke it?
6-inch is the right collar for a single 140 mm fan on a short, direct path: machine near the wall, one bend at most, straight out. What changes the answer is the run, not the fan: length, turns, a shared trunk or an inline booster all argue for the 8-inch version instead.
My machine has 120 mm fans, not 140 mm. What then?
Then the Universal Single 120 mm Fan to 6″ Duct Shroud is your part. If you run a mixed fleet and would rather stock one shroud size than two, the 120 mm to 140 mm Fan Adapter and its 140 mm to 120 mm counterpart let you standardise in either direction.
How many do I need per machine?
One per fan you intend to duct. Most owners shroud the exhaust end only, since that is where the heat and the bulk of the noise leave, and fit a 140 mm Intake Filter Ring on the cold end instead of a second duct.
Does fitting it change anything on the miner?
No. It is an external part: the stock fan stays fitted, no connector is unplugged, no firmware is touched, and no hole is drilled. It seats over the fan, takes a band clamp, and lifts off in seconds, leaving the machine as MicroBT shipped it.
