Whatsminer silencer shroud — 140 mm fan to 8-inch duct
A Whatsminer silencer shroud solves a harder version of the problem than an Antminer part does, and this one is drawn for it: a 140 mm fan face on the intake, a reactive expansion chamber through the middle, a full 8-inch collar on the way out. The 8-inch outlet is a design decision. An M-series machine moves a serious column of air, and a narrow throat on the end of a chamber puts the acoustic body and the duct in competition for the same pressure.
Whatsminer noise also travels. It is a hard, carrying sound that gets through a garage wall and across a property line, which is why most M-series owners duct the exhaust somewhere else entirely. This part sits between the fan and that duct and does acoustic work on the way past.
What it fits
Dimensioned to the MicroBT Whatsminer 140 mm fan flange on its 124.5 mm screw pattern, and named machine by machine: the M30S+, the M50, the M50S+ and the M60. The outlet is a standard 8-inch collar, so it mates with 8-inch flex, 8-inch rigid pipe and 8-inch inline fans such as an AC Infinity Cloudline S8.
Choose it with both eyes open. A silencer is a bigger object than a plain shroud — 230 × 230 × 228.2 mm of body behind the machine — and a chamber draws on the same pressure budget the duct run spends. If your M-series already sits at the top of its thermal range, or the duct is a long run with several bends before it reaches outside, the Whatsminer 140 mm Fan to 8" Duct Shroud is the part to buy and routing is the better lever on noise. For metric ducting, the 140 mm to 200 mm metric shroud covers European and Australian sizing today.
How it installs
- Fit the shroud to the exhaust-side 140 mm fan on the machine’s own fan screws.
- Clamp 8-inch duct to the collar, supporting the duct’s weight near the machine rather than on the collar.
- Carry the run to a wall port, an inline booster or the next room.
No wiring, no fan change, no firmware anything. The machine keeps its own fans and its own curve, and the shroud lifts off with a screwdriver.
Why the chamber and the 8-inch collar work together
An expansion chamber is a reactive silencer: it works by geometry rather than by soaking energy up. Sound running down a duct is a wave in a pipe, and a wave in a pipe partially reflects whenever the cross-section changes abruptly. Widen the path, carry that volume for a length, bring it back down to the collar, and part of the sound heading for your duct is turned back toward the fan. Same principle as an engine exhaust, drawn here around a 140 mm fan.
The collar keeps that body honest on a machine of this class: an 8-inch outlet carries roughly 1.8 times the open area of a 6-inch one, and that area is the headroom the chamber spends. There is no absorptive lining in it — nothing to compress, embrittle in hot exhaust or shed downstream into the air crossing your hashboards.

Open source — print it yourself, or buy it finished
The Whatsminer side of this market is thin on real parts and thick on files of unknown origin. D-Central’s answer is to draw our own and publish them: this silencer is released open source under CC BY-SA 4.0 through the 3D models download center, free to use, modify, remix, print and sell.
D-Central Technologies designed this body, drew the 230 mm chamber onto a 140 mm fan flange, and open-sourced it. Ours, published. The card is at the Whatsminer silencer entry; the file is silencer_140_to_8in.zip, carrying the STL, the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence and the installation and safety guide.

Frequently asked questions
Which Whatsminer models use the 140 mm fan?
Four: the M30S+, the M50, the M50S+ and the M60, which is exactly the list this intake is cut for. If your machine takes a 140 mm exhaust fan, this intake seats on it. Antminer owners want the 120 mm parts instead — the dual 120 mm to 8" silencer is the equivalent body for an S19 or standard S21.
Why is the outlet 8-inch and not 6?
Because two restrictions in series is how a quiet miner becomes a hot one. A 140 mm fan pushes a lot of air, the chamber already spends part of the budget, and an 8-inch collar carries roughly 1.8 times the open area of a 6-inch one. If your run is 6-inch and you want to keep it, the 8" to 6" reducer steps down after the chamber rather than at it.
Can I run it into an inline booster fan?
Yes, and on a long run you should. An 8-inch inline fan downstream pulls the exhaust through the duct so the miner’s own fans are not fighting the whole route alone. Join the two with the 8" duct coupler and keep the duct straight for a short stretch either side of the fan.
My duct is metric. Do you make 150, 160 or 200 mm?
The silencer is 8-inch today. On the plain-shroud side the metric sizes already exist: 140 mm to 200 mm, 140 mm to 160 mm and 140 mm to 150 mm, because European and Australian ducting is metric and most sellers ignore that.
Will it clear the back of a rack?
Compare the 230 × 230 × 228.2 mm footprint against the depth you actually have behind the machine, including anything mounted above it. A chamber is a taller, deeper object than the plain 140 mm shroud. In tight racks, the plain shroud with a longer duct run is the install that goes in.
