Overview
A shroud with an acoustic job on top of the ducting job. Instead of taking the fan straight to a collar, the air passes through a reactive expansion chamber — a deliberate volume change that reflects part of the sound energy back toward the source rather than letting it travel down the duct with the air.
What it fits
Standard 120 × 120 mm fan face on the intake, which covers the Antminer S9 family and effectively any single-fan build. Output is a standard 6-inch duct collar, so it drops into an existing 6-inch run in place of a plain shroud.
Measure before you order. Fit dimensions in this line are derived from published fan and chassis geometry and are not yet validated against measured production hardware. Check your flange size and the clearance around your machine against the footprint in the specifications below. If something does not fit, tell us — that is how the next revision gets better.
How it is used
It installs exactly like the plain single-120 shroud — over the fan, duct clamped to the collar — but it stands taller and deeper, so check your clearance behind the machine before ordering. Everything downstream stays the same.
Why it helps
Reactive silencing works on geometry rather than absorption: sound hitting a sudden area change partially reflects instead of passing through. It costs you nothing in consumables and there is no foam to degrade or shed into your duct. Be realistic about the scale of the effect — an idealised expansion chamber of this size predicts only single-digit decibels of transmission loss, and we have not measured this one on a bench. We publish no decibel figures. What we will say is that the geometry is real acoustics, not a marketing shape.

There is no licence to buy and no design gated behind a purchase. Frequently asked questions
How many decibels will it cut?
We do not know, and we are not going to guess. This design has not been measured on an acoustic bench. What the physics of an expansion chamber this size predicts is a modest single-digit transmission loss — useful, not transformative. Anyone quoting you a big number for a printed plastic chamber is selling, not measuring.
Is this better than stuffing foam in a box?
Different mechanism. Foam absorbs high frequencies and does very little for the low-frequency rumble that actually travels through a house. A reactive chamber targets a band by geometry. Neither is magic. The practical advantage here is that there is nothing to compress, degrade or shed fibres into your airflow.
Do I lose airflow?
Some. Any chamber in the path costs pressure, and this one is not exempt. On a short duct run with a healthy fan it is unlikely to matter; on a long, restricted run it might. If airflow is your binding constraint, take the plain shroud and solve the noise somewhere else.
What about the intake side?
A silencer on the exhaust does nothing about intake noise, and on many machines the intake is the louder end. Ducting or baffling the intake side is a separate job — a filter ring helps with dust but not noise.
